There are many templates for sale on the web these days for really excellent prices.

Most will look excellent and have a nice little flash movie as well as pretty pictures and sound.

This is all well and good but just have a look at the code. Most these days are still not developed in css (so the code is slimmed down) but with a load of nested tables.

Not only will it take a while to work out the code so if you are editing the templates it’s going to take time to add in your own text but the search engines may find it difficult to understand exactly what is going on.

The general rule is to have more content or text on your page than code - so check this out before buying a template.

Most search engines will strip out all the code first and then analyze your page. I undertook a text recently where I had a site that was very clean with minimal code and bought a template and adapted it. Believe it or not the new site still ranks OK and this is mainly because of my good titles, descriptions and off page SEO.

But with all things, if you can get an additional 5 points from the SEs everything helps with ranking.
