what is seo optimization
So what on earth is seo or search engine optimization ?
Well of course everyone wants their site at the top of the organic search engine results pages (SERPs) because all the traffic that is generated is therefore free of charge and you don’t have to go into the tricky world of pay per click (PPC).
The search engines themselves are AOK about standard practices that ensure you have clean code on your site and simple things like page headers that are unique of each page - all this helps them work out what your page is about so when they are using on page factors to see if your page deserves a ranking a decent page title can help.
That also goes for the content and other onpage factors like your internal linking structure - ie: have less “click here” and more “keyword” links.
The same for offpage. As everyone knows it’s the quality of the links that make a page higher in the search engines. Links from relevant pages of course but the biggest push a page can have is links from either your own site (if it’s an authority) or other external sites (that are from the same family theme as your own)
So optimizing pages just means you target certain keyword combinations, write the page to emphasize what’s on the page and get links with your keywords into those pages.
This is SEO 101 - of course getting links is hard. Generally, and this does still hold true today, if you build a rich content site of information where you are effectively “giving back” to the community then people will link to you naturally.
And people WILL link so long as your site is not full of affiliate links and adverts.
Take this site - I am writing about seo optimization as I see it. I am not usually concerned with the order in which I write my words and not targeting anything specific. People will link here (if they find me) because they like the information I am providing.
So link to me
