page headers
OK, so the most important on page element for any page is………. your page headers.
This is your
- in your browser (top left hand corner)
- in the search engine results
So what do you need to add into your page headers?
Well you obviously MUST include the keywords you are targeting on your page - but remember that you should only be targeting perhaps 2 or three keywords on each page.
People tend to go over the top on their index page but there’s no need for it. Keep it to 2 or 3 keyword phrases and then develop your inner pages for the rest of you 100 or 200 KWs you are targeting.
So how do you write your title tag?
Have a look to see what titles are already dominating the SERPs for the engine you are targeting.
The most simply method is to just put in KW1 KW2 KW3 but:
- this could be seen as spamming
- it might not mean much
- you want people to click on your title as well !
Some people add in prices for products but you need to be aware of what I mentioned above. You can join KWs together and you need to be aware of plurals (for some reason search engines treat plurals differently from the singular version).
So if you are targeting “internet marketing” “internet marketing services” and “internet marketing SEO” your title might be “internet marketing SEO services UK” or “professional UK internet marketing SEO services”
Both of these have all your KWs - you’ll rank higher in Yahoo and MSN if you have them in your title - google is more developed and does not necessarily need them - just play around with the title to see what gets you higher rankings as well as more click throughs from users.
And that’s a great page header !
