choosing the right keywords
How do you choose the right keywords to target?
Well you should first of all use some of the free tools available (see the tools section of this website) to drill down and see what people are searching for.
The best way is to start with a very broad term (like business or seo or child) from whatever you are targeting - then you won’t make any assumptions in your keyword choice and probably see a load of other opportunities to target as well.
Note these down and you should come up with maybe 100-200 keyword phrases to target. Keep away from the big money terms for now and start on the smaller elements.
Also look for associated words - do a search in google for your main words with a tilde (~) in front - ie: ~business and see what associated words come up in your search. Then undertake the same research as above to add to your keywords phrases.
Now type these into google and see how many web pages are competiting for those terms. It’s best to target phrases where there are under 1 million competiting results - not everyone is targeting the phrase but just has it in their webpages.
If you see results that have 50 million pages then it’s going to take ages. So choosing the right keywords is time well spent as it should only take less than a day to come up with what to target !
