checking your links
One item a lot of webmasters get hung up about is the volume of links linking to their website.
They check on a daily basis how many links they have and get upset if the search engines don’t show them.
If you have placed links on other websites then I wouldn’t bother checking to see if they are around. If the link is on a website and that website a) is not banned b) does not have the rel=nofollow tag then the search engines will find your links and credit them to your website in due course.
Now, google will not a) display all of your links nor b) show you them instantly. Google only shows you a random amount of your links when you query them and only updates their link numbers every few months or so. So if you are checking your links in google it’s probable you won’t find what you are looking for.
If you must check your links use MSN or Yahoo. Here are the queries to check your links in the major search engines:
Google: link:www.yoursite.com
MSN: link:www.yoursite.com
Yahoo: linkdomain:www.yoursite.com
